INFORMACIÓN

La A-League (conocida como Hyundai A-League por motivos de patrocinio) es la competición de fútbol en Australia de más alto nivel, equivalente a la primera división de otros países. Fue fundada en el 2004 estableciendo su temporada inicial en 2005-2006, y suele celebrarse en los meses de primavera y verano.

La liga esta compuesta por once equipos de las ciudades y regiones. Diez representan a las localidades de mayor importancia en Australia, y además hay un equipo que representa a Nueva Zelanda. Se juega una temporada regular, y al término de la misma los cuatro primeros luchan por el campeonato. Por ello, hay campeón de la temporada regular (premier) y campeón absoluto.

Inicialmente en la OFC, desde el año 2007 está adscrita a la Confederación Asiática de Fútbol y los campeones juegan las competiciones internacionales de la zona de Asia.
